At South Africa 2010, goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama proved himself once again invaluable in net, while AC Milan’s Taye Taiwo offers plenty of firepower from the left back position. Jon Obi Mikel should be the lynchpin in the green-clad midfield, and the attack can call on a range of promising options.

They came close to doing that in the qualifiers for France 1998, when Kenya finished their qualifying group with ten points, just three off Nigeria’s pace and two behind Guinea. Four years later, they disappointed in going out to Malawi in a two-legged tie, while on the road to Germany 2006, Kenya won just three of their ten qualifying matches. There were signs of promise four years ago when Kenya won all three of their home matches to advance from a tricky opening group along with Guinea at the expense of Namibia and Zimbabwe. But once in the final stage with Nigeria, Tunisia and Mozambique, they stumbled and lost five out of six matches.
